The Veshmeshok (вещмешок, literally "stuff bag") has been the basic equipment of the Soviet soldier since the 1930s. Designed to be simple to manufacture and repair in the field, it accompanied millions of soldiers on all fronts. Its thick cotton canvas and sturdy straps make it a remarkably durable bag, still highly appreciated today for hiking, bivouacking, or collecting.
