A bit of history

The mooring grapnel was an essential tool aboard French Navy small craft. Its role was twofold: retrieving ropes that had fallen into the water, and throwing a mooring line toward another vessel to establish a connection or facilitate docking. The hemp rope wound onto its wooden reel allowed for quick and controlled deployment, while the leather pouch ensured neat transport of the set. This type of equipment, now vanished from modern inventories, testifies to the expertise and rigor of 20th-century French naval equipment.

For collectors

Finding such a set complete and in good condition — pouch, grapnel, and reel together — has become extremely rare. Ideal for enriching a collection of naval equipment, decorating an authentic nautical interior, or completing a French Navy historical reenactment.
